Every yard is different and since you are needing to get the product below the soil surface, it can take 1 gal, 1.5 gal, or 2 gal to thoroughly cover the area, this is why a “mock” application is helpful. To determine how much water you need, we would suggest doing a “mock” application filling your sprayer with water doing a test run to see how much water it will take to spray 1,000 sq ft. The mix rate is 4.4 to 6 fl oz per 1,000 sq feet. Sod Webworms are beneath the soil surface so it is important to use a sufficient amount of water to get the active ingredient into those areas under the ground surface. If treating Sod Webworms (lawn moths), the amount of water will vary depending on the layout of the area, how wet or dry the soil is and also the thickness of the thatch layer. Per the product label, Sevin SL Carbaryl Insecticide is limited to spot treatments ONLY for residential turfgrass, it cannot be sprayed as a broadcast application as you are wanting to do.
